Opening Question: What are people’s motives to coming to church?
Q: Why did you come to Bible Talk?
A: Some go for friends, family, be a better person, power, and or benefits. Happiness or Prosper
Let’s take a look at a passage in the bible where someone had questionable motives.
Verse 11 – Q: Why did people follow Simon the Sorcerer?
Verse 12 – Q: What was the difference between Simon and Phillip?
Verse 13 – Q: Simon went through the motions of being a Christian to be saved. Do you think he was really saved?
Verse 18 – Why did he offer money to Peter and John? What perspective was Simon the sorcerer seeing the Holy Spirit?
In verse 22 and 23 – Repent from his thoughts in his heart and that he was full of bitterness and captive to sin.
Peter could see right through Simon’s heart. It all started from the start. Last week we discussed about the two different foundations. Regardless a house is going to be built; it just depends on the heart of the person in the beginning and the motives for seeking after God.
Let’s end with a passage about a man that had the right motives and God was please with him.
2 Chronicles 31:21
Q: What are some of the key words in this passage? Obedience and wholeheartedly
The awesome thing about God is that he has a plan for us.
In Jeremiah 29:11-13
The key to this scripture is to seek with all your heart.
Q: Are you seeking God wholeheartedly and with all your heart?
